Viewing Grant Proposal: EcoWorks_Efficiency-Electrification-Solar-Battery Storage
Through comprehensive efficiency, electrification, solar energy, and battery storage measures, the project will assist four Detroit faith-based organizations in saving thousands of dollars on their annual energy bills that can be reinvested in vital services that these organizations offer their disadvantaged neighbors. Our project will also make these spaces resilient for community members to seek refuge during extreme weather events and other emergencies.

As a 178 year old institution we welcome the opportunity to become a resilience hub in Detroit's historic North End community. Our church has served as a community gathering space in providing a food pantry, clothing closet and weekly hot wheels for the community for the past 50+ years. Additionally we provide computer training programs and job connectivity for seniors and other vulnerable populations as well. With the cost savings accumulated via the electrification of our building, we will be empowered to expand our outreach programs and uplift the community not only on a regular basis, but during their most susceptible moments as well! Fundamentally our hope and desire is that this is the beginning of a larger and expansive moment to address resource shortages in impoverish areas.

We are a neighboring and partner church and community resource center and have experienced the depth of commission, community service and integration of ecological beliefs into action that Pastor Jackson, church elders and active community members demonstrate in living out care for creation and care for the vulnerable in this community, up to and including door-to-door outreach. The Pastor is an active leader with the MOSES organization in Michigan and as such highly capable of aligning action with policy and advocacy on public service, water, and power. United Christian Church espouses the kind of brave and compelling leadership on the journey that the small but growing number of Detroit churches have shown in environmental stewardship. Ecoworks, Solar Faithful and Michigan Interfaith Power and Light among others form a great collaborative around this work.
