Viewing Grant Proposal: BioWorks Energy-CoDigestion and Anaerobic Digester-Combined Heat and Power
BioWorks Energy proposes installing co-digestion infrastructure at the City of Saginaw wastewater
treatment plant to process food waste along with sewage sludge. BioWorks also plans to retrofit the
existing unused tanks at the plant with the necessary improvements needed to use them as anaerobic
digesters for this co-digestion. From there, the increased biogas produced from co-digestion will be
utilized for combined heat and power electricity generation. BioWorks anticipates installing a
combined heat and power (CHP) system with a rated electrical power capacity of 550-kW and 900 kW
of thermal (hot water). BioWorks seeks to utilize the plant's existing assets (existing tankage and piping
system) to create mutual benefit through a Public-Private Partnership with Saginaw.
