Viewing Grant Proposal: City of Ypsilanti-Solar on Residential Homes
Most solar power is installed at utility scale or on upper SES homes, not lower-income households due to costs and tax credit issues. Our goal is to install solar on +100 low-income homes, saving homeowners $50 per month. Installing +100 systems at one time, in one area, will produce an economy of scale, yielding a cost below $2/watt. In addition to lowering CO2 and providing low-income residents savings, the project 3will also train and hire local residents, creating new job opportunities.

This project to install solar panels on 100 low-income homes in Ypsilanti is a powerful step toward both environmental sustainability and social equity. By expanding access to clean, renewable energy, we can reduce our community's dependence on fossil fuels and cut harmful emissions that contribute to climate change. At the same time, helping low-income families save up to $50 per month on electric bills directly supports financial stability and long-term affordability potentially saving each family $6,000 over a decade. Everyone deserves access to clean energy, not just those who can afford it. This grant would make Ypsilanti a more just, forward-thinking, and climate resilient community.

This project will help our community reduce our carbon footprint and help us and DTE meet alternative energy goals. All through working with a community that could not normally afford solar power on their own! A win/win. Thank you!

I am in support of this proposal/project because it offers financial and community advantages.
The project provides access to affordable clean energy to residents who otherwise might not be able to afford it. And in doing so, the project allows residents to contribute to a sustainability future.
Further, the project will help residents save on their energy costs, create jobs and provide educational opportunities.
Your sincere consideration of this proposal is requested.

This project is critical to insure that Ypsilanti and the state of Michigan make renewable energy options available to all residents. This grant program is an integral asset to the Renaissance of positive change that Ypsilanti has experienced in the past decade.

This project is directed and developed for economically at an economically at risk community giving them 2 levels of advantages: 1. Lower electric bills (with a lower carbon footprint of course) and 2. Local jobs and training to instill solar power. Win/win!

Low income individuals should not be receiving “free money” or “free equipment “ to install solar when all of us had to pay for it on our own.

I am writing in support of the proposed solar project in Ypsilanti, Michigan. As a 28 year resident of the city, and as a huge proponent of fair housing, sustainability and job training with an eye to the future, the proposed project will be an enormous gift to the community and a model of what is possible for other cities all across the state.
The solar project proposed on the south side of Ypsilanti will provide financial relief to low-income households, which are feeling a disproportionate impact of rate increases on the part of DTE Energy. Savings of $50/month (or more) will allow families to allocate more money to food, healthcare, education and perhaps even savings.
This project will also create local jobs by training and hiring Ypsilanti residents in solar installation and maintenance. With a commitment to skill-building in the fast-growing clean energy sector, a number of Ypsilanti residents will be on the path to potential long-term employment opportunities.
From a sustainability perspective, the installation of broad-based solar will reduce CO2 emissions, meaning a cleaner environment and improved air quality in Ypsilanti and support for Michigan's bold goals set forth through the MI Health Climate Plan. The proposed project also builds upon Ypsilanti’s history of successful solar projects, many of which have been spearheaded, supported and facilitated by SolarYpsi.
Finally, the proposed solar project is a beautiful way to revitalize the south side of the city. Broad-based solar installation will strengthen community pride and ownership in the clean energy transition, and enhance Ypsilanti’s reputation as a leader in innovative, community-driven renewable energy initiatives. As a long- time and very proud resident, I would love to see Ypsilanti serve as a model city for equitable clean energy adoption across Michigan and beyond.
